“Spare no expense”

I liked it until I saw the shifter.  The trans is not mentioned but I’ll assume it’s a ZF sourced auto.  If this had the same 6-spd manual out of an M3 I’d be more into it.

Hey you’re out of the greys now! I’ve switched to just using battery powered impacts at this point which have push button settings to reduce torque (setting 3 being full blast and setting 1 being well under the torque spec for the lug nuts.).  I use setting 3 for removal, setting 1 to tighten (in a star pattern),

Looks good, has RWD (with better range than AWD I might add), makes decent power (225hp and some amount of instant torque), and eclipses the mythical 300 mile range. The weight needs to come down a bit for my tastes but this is very promising. I do have some concerns as to how the rapid charging will impact the

It makes sense as a future proofing mechanism.  Make the architecture 800v and improve electronics and charging infrastructure to improve above the current kW output.  Eventually the 800v will surpass what the 400v can with steady improvements.

I’ve been known to use a torque limiting stick set to 80 ft-lbs. Not as accurate as my +/- .05% accuracy snap-on torque wrench but I was doing 10 rotations a day back then.  Now I do as you do, turn the torque way down on the impact to tighten, finish with torque wrench.

Possibly, or if the wrench was set to tighten i.e. you finish the left side by torquing it down and move to the left to loosen then you just torque it right off.

I’ll say a few things as a former tech, the first is that I used to do a similar technique that the techs did with cars with wheel locks. With the car on the ground, parking brake on and in gear or park, loosen only the wheel lock lug nuts by hand. I typically did not loosen the other lug nuts by hand as my 1200 ft-lb

Ah, makes sense. Upon inspection of other T3's this seems to be an area where many people come up with far less elegant solutions to cover the engine so a white corrugated cover is not as egregious as I thought.

That piece of corrugated steel that is patching the hole in the bed makes me nervous. That and I thought this was a high price to begin with for a non-turbo diesel late 80's VW.

Well they got the clicks, then you got the clicks so....

Try galvanized steel

Track use isn’t the only hard use. As electric vehicles, especially trucks and HD trucks become more ubiquitous, towing and hauling are going to be more of a factor. I would argue that putting a payload in a truck or towing would be considered pretty normal things to do with a truck that also constitute increased

That was another thing I was curious about.  Non-use can be just as detrimental to a system as heavy use.  Do electric cars have issues with rust build up on the rotors, warped rotors (going from cold to hot quickly), or brakes sticking (caliper slides stuck, brake piston won’t return, etc.) due to lack of use?  If

Disregard that man in the Boeing 787 shirt pouring paint thinner on that plane.

I really don’t get the snark of this article. The jeep is both a compliance vehicle (hits all the Euro requirements for emissions, range, etc.) and can feasibly be a daily commuter on sole electric power. Stop shitting on plug-in hybrids as they are the best and most viable holdover until the world can build a good

I’ll submit another Cool Tool (tm) which I’ve used for removing exhaust studs but also is good at removing any stud or allthread that you come across.  Basically you pass the stud through to hole and as you turn the 1/2" drive socket wrench the grippy circle grabs the stud.  It may mar the stud when removing it but

“This one is mostly stock, getting some nice suspension upgrades from Tanner Foust Racing and Rhys Millen Racing to handle the conditions.”

This does highlight something that most people don’t think about in terms of maintenance. A big part of why people are pushing full electric is because of lower maintenance. In my experience brakes are one of the more common maintenance consumables. With electric cars weighing in significantly more than a conventional

With a Model S motor and battery this thing will dominate.  Overnight parts from Texas if we have to.
