I would think that the technosphere started as soon as an animal used a tool that wasn't part of their body. It has been refined by us humans into a global franchise dense and rarefied enough to almost justify its classification as another form of matter. Animal, vegetable, mineral, technology.

This will all be easier once we recognize pets and livestock as "people".
