I grew up in the GDR, and to be honest the 2-stroke cars were something people drove because they had to, not because they wanted to. 4-stroke Ladas were the BMWs of the GDR so to speak, everybody fancied them, but not everybody could afford them.

My classroom faces the teachers parking lot. One of my colleagues had one exactly like in your picture. The kids were wondering what her husband does, because they thought that no teacher could afford such a car on their own.

According to some sources, there was no love lost between the Mercedes and the DKW engineers. Apparently, Mercedes told the DKW guys early on that they needed to focus on 4-stroke engines, but the guys in Ingolstadt continued working their beloved 2-strokes, blowing Mercedes’ orders off as the arrogance of a luxury

Really nice!

Clean and timeless design. Just try finding a good one now.

I never said that it’s the same car, just that the remidering rerminded me of something, or not....

That wouldn’t actually be too bad! Now, how about a Toyota CRX Si?

Soon at a Toyota dealership near you: “Two cars for the price of one!!!”

Hmmmm.... This reminds me of something. I just don’t.... Have I seen that somewhere before? Does it look like..... If only I could remember!

She’s a teacher so being able to judge her sources should come with the territory, or so you might think.

Well, there is the R360S. Sort of...

Damn, there’s even more of this stuff:

When I worked in the UK we had one of these in our fleet to ferry special needs kids around. Slow and ugly, but with a hose down interiour. We had nicer vans as well, but this one was actually the best suited for the job. Just imagine what 18 muddy wellington boots do to a car!

There are B roads in Germany that have a central divider, look and feel like an Autobahn, have no speed limit, but are not classified as such. They are called “Kraftfahrstrasse”. The road sign looks like this:

Well, the last elections were questionable at best. Government control of the media and all...

It’s ass forward, I know, but having to choose between two evils I prefer seeing how this plays out. Maybe I was a bit taken over by the idea of someone finally showing Erdogan his limits.

It becomes problematic when Erdogan turns a blind eye towards Isis. He was basically helping them either through inaction, or through fighting their enemies.

How about controlling the media, cleaning universities, and imprisoning anyone who as much as makes a joke on FB? Doesn’t sound too democratic to me.

Aldi! I’m a tightwad.

Not my words, but I applaud the sentiment.
