I can understand somewhat the initial concern about physical strength but this is negated by the mandatory requirements. Aka if she can meet the physical strength required, then she has every right to be there.

I don’t think just because she’s a fantastic female writer that she should only explore a female voice in her story-telling? I would guess that the bacteria were on her skin to begin with, and the friction from the hair tie created tiny little tears that let the bacteria into the underlying tissue. If that’s the case, it’s a freak accident, not at all reflective of the hair tie or her hygiene.
