When I was a journalism student, we were taught that one test for a story is whether it has the “ring of truth”. Which is more likely, that the family of a fallen soldier would conspire to make Donny Two Scoops look bad, or that Trump would say something wildly inappropriate and lie about it? So much to consider...

Not disagreeing with you, but I think it also might be a scenario where he has to be entirely deferential and cannot make it about him in any way, shape or form. And his awful narcissism and lack of attention span doesn’t allow him to do that, even for a lousy 10 minute phone call.

this is mostly unrelated but if you have Amazon Prime you can get a digital subscription to the Washington Post - first 6 months are free and then its $3.99/month after that!

And of course the White House is claiming there is no recording of the phone call. So I encourage Donny to show is this “proof” he speaks of. It’s probably hidden in his vault, along with Obama’s “real” birth certificate.

Right? It’s just glaringly obvious that HE DOES NOT HAVE PROOF. Everybody knows it. He knows it. If he had any, he’d’ve already been trumpeting it to the heavens.

And I don’t even think he was asked if he called families, I believe he was asked why he had yet to comment on the incident and soldiers’ deaths. He could have simply mumbled something about tragedy and sacrifice, but because he’s a narcissistic asshole he’s created another shitstorm.

Besides, wouldn’t they have come up with something more sensational? Like him calling her husband by the wrong name, for example, instead of merely forgetting his name and calling him “your guy”?

I believe that certain branches of the military are more pro-Trump than others. The Marine Corp hated Hillary and blamed her for Benghazi. So much so that they lauded a draft-dodging, POW-hating, Russia-loving, secret-leaking, daughter-lusting, woman-groping, ignorance-spewing, nazi-supporting, orange-pitted IGNORAMUS

That all depends on their pigmentation.

To quibble over a minor point to make a larger one, I wouldn’t say it was sense, as much as common decency. Most people have the decency to follow through on a lie/scam/whatever...except for those who aren’t held accountable for their actions.

He began lying about her approximately 20 minutes after the Congresswoman went public. Said the conversation was fabricated, ostensibly calling “the wife” a liar. He needs to die.

Don’t forget about the time Mrs. Obama wore a sleeveless dress.

I came here to say this. This whole situation could not be a more perfect set up for republicans to cry “lies”. I mean, have you seen some of the the pics of Sgt. Johnson? Tattoos and a gold grill. Aand...there you go! Case closed! Thug! Liar! Ingrate family! NEVER FUCKING MIND THAT THE MAN WAS A MOTHERFUCKING GREEN

Black Gold Star family and black Congresswoman. Are we surprised at Trump’s attitude towards them?

It will never cease to amaze me how the GOP has co-opted the military vote even though 1) they’re more likely to start wars that get service members killed; 2) if they return home from those wars they are barely taken care of cause the VA is underfunded; 3) now they’re not even paying lip service to pretending to

Representative Wilson stated that, after the call, Myeshia turned to Ms. Wilson and said, “[Trump] didn’t even remember [Sgt. Johnson’s] name.” He can’t even be bothered to remember the name of the soldier or the soldier’s spouse.

I mean, Barack Obama forgetting to switch his coffee cup to his off-hand when he saluted a Marine was a fucking Fox News scandal for weeks here.

Now now... Who are you going to believe? A fallen soldier’s grieving family or a man with a history of lying and a documented history of attacking the grieving family of a fallen soldier?

I guess he was asked by the press pool and he wouldn’t even call Myesha Johnson by her name, just called her the woman/wife. He probably doesn’t even know her name or care to know it.

He called her “The woman” and “The wife” in his comments and had clearly forgotten her name (if he ever bothered learning it).
