I fail to see how the obvious difference in importance of a presidential election and who wins oscars negates the fact that people who say “I’m only supporting black people for awards” or “I will not vote for a white male for president” are cut from the same problematic worldview.

Not really, because it’s from the exact same worldview.

This is the same philosophy that people saying they won’t vote for a white male for president embrace. I understand where it comes from, but it’s pretty darn stupid and somewhat troubling. I don’t know how it can be seen as “progress”
