I have been working on FJ40's since I bought a 1981 BJ42 for my first car at 17. I daily drive a 1977 FJ45 these days. I am really excited to see what you have to say about them!

Would you ever consider taking a look at a reader submission? I’d love to write about the 40 series and how they have directly or indirectly

My first truck was a BJ42, I drove that thing until the frame collapsed. I was a broke student, couldn’t afford to fix it, and ended up giving it away to someone from ih8mud, who was going to use it as an engine donor. I still can’t listen to Long May You Run without tearing up.

The best way to think about a 40, is that it is not a slow truck, it is in fact, a fast, comfortable tractor! Welcome to the madness brother! Wait until you have a good dig around in their mechanical guts, and witness for yourself the simplicity, robustness, and ingenious design tweaks that send me into a tizzy every

Going to have to go with the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ45, great off road ability, and ridiculously reliable. Its a favorite of warlords the world over for a good reason. Very few electronic components, so not much to go wrong, durable as all get out, and easy to fix with baling wire and an adjustable spanner. Pictured is

Sounds like you could be my counterpart! My vehicles are like me, nothing much to look at, not super clean, but they are reliable, and do their job well.

Ouch! That sucks man! Not trying to sound trite, I know the awful feeling of leaving nothing on the field, and still getting defeated, but a wise old drunk once gave me some advice for times like this: “If it was good times all the time, every idiot would be doing this” Good luck with your motor!

For sure, I keep a fleet of 3 vehicles plus work trucks just in case we have a couple of majors!

Anyone else find the act of fixing cars literally addictive? I had an “interesting” youth full of drugs and whatnot, but when I replaced the worn out carburetor on my FJ45, and the engine fired up first turn, it was literally the best high I have ever had. Even routine maintenance gives me a little tickle, and if I

FJ’s are terrible, nobody should own one, and all the remaining ones should be sold at rock bottom prices to guys like me in Northern BC who deserve the suffering. Agenda aside, I think the owner is taking his chances betting someone who wants something vaguely FJ shaped will snap it up. I love these things, and am

Designer may have anomalous trichromacy! He probably thought they were the same colour when reviewing samples, and everyone else just went along to avoid an awkward discussion.

“It was the interviewers fault” - Sounds like a pretty Limp excuse to me!

Of course! Since it’s almost October, the annual crop of lighter, winter weight oils are being released, and the low temp viscosity index improvers nutty flavor pairs nicely with a sultry smooth smoked cheese

I recommend the 2019 Chevron 87 Octane paired with a young French cheese. If sir prefers a lighter flavor, I would suggest coolant paired with a fresh fruit medley. As far as lubricants go, our house blend 90 weight gear oil goes best with smoked meats, while engine oil pairs nicely with the harvest bread and artisan

Proper disposal of fluids isn’t just about maintaining a standard of decorum for auto enthusiasts. If you have a “vat” like I do, and it leaks, you can very quickly turn your driveway/yard into a contaminated site, which at least in BC, has huge implications when it comes time to sell your place. Even if don’t

We all know conspiracies are dumb!

Married to one,I’m not a huge fan of the hay burner, but it makes her happy, so who am I to complain. Nowadays she mainly accessorizes the horse, rather than the house or her wardrobe, but we have a few legacy items kicking around.

Cool! I have a 6x6 side by side and it runs into a similar issue when I’m in 2x6. My middle two axles are the ones that drive, and they are an open diff. What happens is the axle with drive gets suspended because its over a hole or something, held up by the other axles. The solution is to engage another drive axle, in

Sonofa Diddly, I share a birthday with Buick! Cool!

This fella might be able to make your ol’ Merc sound like a F1 car through careful engineering and craftsmanship, and kudos to him for doing so, but there’s a chap on night shift where I work who, though feckless neglect and deliberate butchery, made his old Merc sound like a dying tractor.

Land Cruisers are like dogs.  They are all good and they are all the best!
