There was a series of Rogue Squadron novels in the mid- to late-90s that followed the titular squadron helping the New Republic wipe out the last vestiges of the Imperial Navy. They were quite a hoot. Would have loved to see a movie drawn from those stories.

Yeah and that thematic connection is clearly what Gilroy was going for. But I still found it annoying, wholly unecessary, and far too similar to the endless bits of fan wankery that the ST and recent live-action shows have given us.

Syril, you dumb bastard. I was wrong to call Syril “Brownshirt Javert.”” Javert was eventually able to recognize the injustice of the system he supported. Syril still doesn’t realize he’s on the wrong side even after seeing the Empire slaughter innocent people. I will now call Syril “fascist Smithers.”

I was going to complain about the letter grade, since every episode of this show, with the possible exception of episode 11, has been an A.

I’m not seeing a lot of comments. And it doesn’t seem to be a buzzy show. But it’s been a fantastic season of TV.

Man, Genevieve O’Reilly got cast in a deleted scene in a movie in 2005 for a character that said very little in the OG trilogy and she has been just absolutely milking that casting choice and killing it since.

Overlong is about right.

There’s absolutely no need for a Superhero movie to be more than two and half hours long.

These movies live or die by the actors. Pretty much every other aspect of them is mediocre as fuck

Disappointing to hear. I generally avoid these superhero movies because they’re all the same homogenized factory-assembled corporate product but relented and watched the first Black Panther, which was solid. Have close to no interest in this one.

Thanks Racj82 your support is really appreciated.

Its rare when I read a comment this long and basically disagree with all of it. Bravo.

The whole thing reminded me of The Dark Knight Rises... overlong, overwrought. None of the scenes flow and pace is virtually non-existent. Characters making portentous speeches that add up to nothing. An antagonist (lopsidedly) way more interesting and charismatic than any protagonist.

nobody will ever top Jobu Tupaki.

I can’t get over how phenomenal this show is. As a prequel to a prequel it has no business being THIS good.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. This show is phenomenal.

It’s not just kids though. It’s commitments in general. Superheroes don’t really build a life that involves any traditional or untraditional markings of adulthood: marriage, home ownership, kids, biz, friend groups, whatever.

I always felt like Lucas went the other way with his overarching story: merely appropriating historical symbols (Nazi-sh uniforms, British accents, etc) to relate a story that’s much more about the human soul rebelling against mechanized, conformist oppression rather than any actual historical rebellion. Either way,

>People’s comparisons to stuff like the Wire or the Americans are spot on in that regard.

That was a weird word choice. Sure, it means “shot full of holes,” but it’s a lowbrow idiom in comparison to the rest of his speech pattern.

YES. Literally the minute that line dropped I had to pause the episode to go check who wrote the ep. First and only ep credited to Stephen Schiff, who was initially the showrunner. Does anyone know why he stepped down?
