I really dug how they integrated text messaging and the social media elements into the game. Some of the posts in Spidey’s twitterfeed were spot-on hilarious. Even the selfie photo mode was just too damn fun not to abuse and fool around with.

FFXI was cross-play on PC, PS2, and X360. That Square-Enix was able to convince MS to release FFXI must really have been an amazing corporate feat at the time.

At launch, I was considering picking up the game, but didn’t after learning it was just another one of their branching games. And the graphics weren’t that great.

Companies tend to get big and then implode on itself because they have to show revenue “growth” on an annual basis to keep the shareholders happy. That’s my take exactly, too. I haven’t really figured out why I feel this way, but it was the same with the last two TR games. Like, I know they will be good once I get around to playing them, but the sense of urgency hasn’t really been a factor. The psychological science behind it eludes me. And it’s the same case

I share the same sentiments you mention regarding the attempts at the story trying to be dramatic, where for me in the past two TR games I would just sit there thinking, “Yeah yeah whatever, we all know this will eventually lead into either a puzzle or fight.”

Haha yeah. I think when ticket sales decline, they tack on a farewell tag to the next tour to give it a boost. Sometimes I wonder if they secretly filed a trademark patent on the term "farewell", and need to use it every few years so that it doesn't expire. lol
