D’oh!  Yes, trademarked.  Sorry for the brain slip.

The Cien design isn’t without problems, but unlike this C8, it’s bold and original. Too bad GM didn’t give the mid engine ‘Vette to Cadillac.

GM patented “Corvette Manta Ray” in 2015, along with “Corvette E-Ray.”

5.5L DOHC V8 naturally aspirated and with twin turbo?

You give it too much credit. Ferrari would not put such a tepid design into production.

You’re just old fashioned and fearful of change. Stick with Camaros, they’re better suited for you. Tacky retro designs that eschew modernism in favor of a Golden Era of American Greatness that exists in the heads of old timey Camaro buyers.

The rear wheel isn’t too far back, but the awkward intake scoop treatment makes it look too far back. The straight line you pointed out that runs from the tail light to the scoop’s vertex is a feeble attempt to add interest to the design.

Based on 2015 GM trademarks I believe they’ll designate the current C7 as the “Corvette Stingray” and the mid engine C8 as the “Corvette Manta Ray.” The 1000 hp hybrid beast will be the “Corvette E Ray.

Yeah, these pre-production specimens may have special light fixtures to hide the actual shape of the final versions, but the body cutouts are clearly the thin rectangles from the Camaro.

That’s cool about the AWD+MRC builds, it must have been a stealth build choice. I’ve been looking at used ATSes but now I’ll have to check out some earlier Premium AWD builds. Thanks for the tip!

Insane. The C7 is the best looking Corvette to date. I came of age in the C4 era and it was totally meh. To be fair, most cars were fugly back then.

Looks to me like they had a brilliant design and it went through too many focus groups and then a committee of frumpy GM managers had their way with it.

Differences.

Indeed, across the board GM’s design studio is in total fail mode.

It’s not just you, the proportions are off somehow, especially in the hind quarters. It almost looks like the engine bay must be sized for an inline 12. Maybe with less rear overhang it would work better?

That’s not at all true since the Alpha platform debuted.

What’s really tragic is that GM thinks there is no problem with visibility. When the chief designer was asked about it, he just shrugged and said their customers are fine with it.

Exactly right. The Challenger has the retro thing nailed, and the Mustang is so damn sexy as to make hearts skip a beat.

It looks like a Corvette to me. Remember, the Corvette’s original creator, Zora Arkus Duntov, always intended for it to be a mid-engined car. The front engine Corvettes were always a compromise.

Fuck the tradition Corvette sect. This a gorgeous design and GM will not be held hostage to a mediocre past by a bunch of uptight rubes who freak at the slightest change to their old timey horseshit.
