There are some AMAZING independent polish brands out there that you can’t find anything like in the drug store. And they are not dangerous like these. Their companies aren’t headed by narcissistic assholes. You won’t find polish like this at CVS....

Ninjapolish and picture polish are very popular and high quality.

it’s unfortunate that this debacle is what brings the indie nail polish community (oof, so much twee in that name) into the public eye. there are tons of awesome, careful, quality polish makers out there, and this guy is the rule rather than the exception.

Reputable indie companies do test. They wear and use the product. Friends and family wear test for reactions, fading, etc. These aren’t people mixing chemicals in a basement, they have labs. Unless you are Mentality many companies do care!

There are hundreds of indie brands out there. Mentality is one exception. Polish M’ is one of my favorites (@creativenailchick on instagram, there is a strong indie nail polish community there). She recently posted her ingredients after this to be transparent.

Agreed. As not a blogger, I have a STUPID amount of indie polish from many different makers. Some are better than others, of course but this just puts a pall over all of them. Aphrodite Lacquer, ManGlaze, and KBshimmer being a few of my faves :)

I am actually super surprised that this even made it to Jezebel. It’s currently a huge issue within the indie polish maker community, as well as the nail art community.
