I’m stating that if the skinny repeal had passed that there would have been no way they could have afforded insurance in the subsequent turmoil that the skinny repeal would have caused in individual health insurance markets where my parents get their insurance.

If Joe had lost his job for being a piece of shit in 2012, then my parents wouldn’t have insurance, so why don’t you take a rusty rake, heat it up over a fire, and shove it up your ass.

I mean, if I were going to try to be as obtuse as Paul is here, I could say something like “With his vote to prevent the ACA repeal, he’s done more good in this country to-date than Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and more good than Paul Blest and every other Splinter writer combined are likely to ever do in their entire

A wealth tax may face serious challenges when it comes to the ability of the very rich to move their money internationally. But a well-crafted tax should still be able to capture a significant amount of wealth for the public till. Until someone has a better proposal for mitigating wealth inequality, everyone should

I mean, honestly many banks probably would lend to federal workers, and even at pretty competitive rates.

Oh, well, I’ll just tell my parents to go ahead and cancel the insurance policies they were only able to get because Joe Manchin was in the Senate on July 28th of 2017 instead of John Raese. If that date and the name John Raese doesn’t mean anything to you, then you are not qualified to weigh in on whether Joe Manchin

The great thing (for her) about being a member of the House majority is that her vote will rarely, if ever, be “needed”.

If it’s not normal to shut down the federal government when we don’t get what we want then it probably shouldn’t be normal to vote against a bill to open up the government because it doesn’t have what you want.

Campaign goals and promises should be pursued independent of whether the government should be allowed to continue to operate.

I know that’s true in one sense, but in another sense, the Black Israelites believe shit that’s only mildly less bonkers that believing in Xenu and the Thetans, so at the very least it would make the whole thing a lot more hilarious.

I agree that a hard military intervention in Venezuela is, at the current moment, ill-advised. However, depending on how the situation develops, if a full blown civil war breaks out, you could have a humanitarian situation dire enough that intervention would be one supported by a fairly broad coalition of countries.

You’re smarter than making that comparison. The EU has open borders that are governed by a multi-lateral treaty that each party willingly signed on to.

I agree, but what I’m talking about specifically are the positions Splinter has lined out, either explicitly or implicitly by what they crap all over.  Put it all together, and it’s sort of hard to conclude the believe any kind of border enforcement should be allowed.

But what does Sean Penn think we should do?  I mean.  Yeesh.  Someone tell Venezuela that the 20th century called and it would like it’s failed state back.

I mean, holy shit.  This thread is bad enough that it makes me want to put on my tinfoil hat and ask whether CunningFolk and HotTake are paid by the word or by the post.

I want this because I feel like giving those wahoos a platform might be the one thing that makes everyone shut up about this, and walk away, pretending they never saw that video or participated in this follow up circus in the first place.

If “the other side” wants to call something “a doojobbie” while you have never called that something “a doojobbie” then .. okay.

While I agree that this is true, I also think it’s fair to look at Samantha’s statements specifically on the topic and think her opinions definitely add up to “Open Borders” even if she’s not willing to explicitly state it. Ditto for a handful of other Splinter writers.

It is, but people here won’t acknowledge that. Trump has explicitly rejected this sort of notion of beefing up security without what he defines as a “Wall”.
