Glad you picked this up! So ridiculous and sad and typical. I really need to move from this state.

His advice is pretty solid, but when I was listening to the podcast, I also had a hard time swallowing the right-wing crap.

Thank you for the advice!

I’ve seen both philosophies recommended. Dave Ramsey (whose philosophy I don’t particularly ascribe to but some of his budgeting tools are good) believes in the $1,000 emergency fund and then throwing EVERYTHING else at debt. Suze Orman says women in particular need to focus on savings more and having more like six

My question is: do you pay off the debt first or build up the savings first? I’m trying to do both, and there is such a temptation to take the majority of my savings and put it toward the credit card debt. It wouldn’t erase it, but it would make a really good dent.

True. The fact that you’ve been banned more times than anyone else I know speaks to that. But the commentariat can get pretty nasty all on our own depending on the day and story.

It seemed to be deployed mostly when the site was getting criticized (perhaps correctly, perhaps incorrectly) for not toeing the feminist party line.

I’ve taken an hour to try to come up with a cohesive way to explain all the ways I love this article, but there’s too much in here for me to unpack it properly in a comment-sized paragraph.

I saw these downthread after I had already posted, and I got Kinja’d into not being able to change it. But thank you for setting me straight!

I saw the debunkings after I posted. A good reminder I should 1) read the full thread when I'm late to it and 2) not believe everything on the internet!

I saw that. I come to these threads late and I couldn’t edit my original post. I appreciate you taking the time to tell me,though!

Wow. I did not know this! Thank you for this great bit of Hollywood trivia.

They all bank at a Bank of America in Malibu. My brother worked there in college in the late 1990s and waited on Martin Sheen. Said he was very pleasant. Emilio was also polite to staff.

He was in an ep of Supernatural a while back, but I thought he was faking the American accent. Wow. This is a game-changer fact for me.

I don’t know whether I am appreciative Ansel whats-his-face is being frugal, or am angry at him for looking at the phone instead of the mirror. Up your selfie game, bro!

AMEN.

Gronk is SO DUMB and SO PRETTY it’s painful. I’d totally do him in the alley behind a Pizza Hut.

And Eve Myles from Torchwood. She’s FANTASTIC in this.

“Tried bulimia?” Oh, Christ child. Making yourself throw up once is not bulimia. It’s definitely the sign of a problem, but don’t go throwing it around like you know shit about it. Bulimia is a horribly nasty cycle of binging, guilt, purging, guilt, repeat. Multiple times over time. I really REALLY dislike this woman.

I think it was better. You had less of the character establishment and could sink into the nuances of everyone’s relationships, while enjoying new characters as well. And (mini-spoiler?) they didn’t try to introduce a bunch of new craziness, but instead took you deeper in the rabbit hole of what had happened in the
