Insurance companies know that most people aren’t willing to cross shop, so they will regularly raise rates until consumers finally get squeezed out. While they may lose a customer that way, they have gained more from other companies doing the same thing. Since everyone keeps doing this, the market continues to get…
Medical Loss Ratio Rebates, if your health insurance doesn’t spend 80% on actual health care costs they have to refund a portion back to the insured. I actually qualified for one a few years ago, but I didn’t get anything back because my employer at the time paid 100% of my insurance so they got the refund.
Shocking to see that those insurance companies that spend a metric fuckton of money on advertisements — Geico, Progressive, LibMut — might not have much money or interest in helping actually pay for claims. Very pyramid-scheme-y flavor to these advertisers-first, insurance companies-afterthought.
When someone hit me in my Corolla and it had to be totaled. I checked on local prices through cars.com and other sites, to get ready to fight them on the reimbursement. I was surprised when they came back with an amount that was at least a few hundred higher than local dealer sales. On top of that, they went ahead and…
I guess that’s why they have to advertise heavily now outside the armed forces and basically anyone qualifies if they have a family member who served up to grandparents... so almost everyone.
IDK about that. I had once switched from Progressive to Farmers. Farmers auto was more expensive with the exact same coverage, and the homeowners was more expensive too but with better coverage. In the span of 3 years they nearly doubled my rates even though I didn’t have a single claim. I called them to try to get…
Unusually overall ratings from CR are free to see. You have to pay to get the nitty gritty details that will help most people decide based on what aspects of a product they are most concerned with.
Had a few claims with progressive, including a totaled car. Their service center was totally fine with decent service and rental car. With the totaled car that was the other person’s fault, they paid out the estimated value to me within a few days and actually paid out a little better than the same basic car and…
Geico is by far my cheapest option and I dont really know how. Progressive was robbing me blind before switching.
I still think about and miss Consumerist, which was long ago the best of the Gawker Media sites and was bought by CR.
I struggled to think of any auto insurance not on this list.
Edit request: remove the word “worst” from the post title.
If someone didn’t repost their content, would we even know CR still existed?
So pretty much all of them?
Extremely surprised USAA didn’t make the list. Their quality has taken a nosedive in recent years.
That’s a trap, because Bradford is definitely the coolest.
It went a little over what I wanted to pay. I’ve definitely been looking at Ref. 3520.53s all day, though.
At $15k, someone just stole that watch... I know it’s a lot of money but damn. I hope it was you Brad, and I am going to bug you to let me wear it.
Bought my Prius back when it was 0% financing for 72 months. But people didn’t think it was cool back then. its already paid off and is still near the top of its class in MPG and owner ship cost. Visibility is also much better than the new one. Be jealous
