Hybrid vehicles and to a greater extent electric vehicles use little to no friction braking, because they make use of motor resistance to recharge the battery (“regen brakes”). The brakes may be identical, but they just won’t heat up as much because they won’t be used as much. I can do my whole 25 mile each way suburba…
Also clean you’re wheels and brakes off before going to a place with big hills
Most vehicle fires here happen because brakes overheat going down steep grades.
Yeah, the big issue is that we built the CITIES based on a captive work population. I was in IT and did the consulting on-site bs for many many years until the pandemic. When they pushed return, I quit and found a full time remote place and it was sooooo nice. it was sorta funny and sad as the client we worked with…
I work for a California government agency, and we had to start going into the office 2 days a week back in May. Now I’m back in the traffic, wasting 2 hours a day commuting. The stupid part is they’re ignoring the fact that a lot of us have ZERO reason to be in the office at all. I work in IT infrastructure…
I’ve said for a long time that remote work is probably the most effective climate policy. If people only drive on the weekends that has a dramatic effect on gas demand, emissions, road wear, etc. Way simpler solution than trying to build an entire charging infrastructure. Not to mention for those people who have jobs…
Even if you show them data that it’s decreasing, they’ll just say “well, Obama is just doing this temporarily to help get Kamala elected”.
Wait. I’m pretty sure I’ve heard every Trump voter I meet telling me that gas prices are at an all-time high, and the only way to get them back down again is if he’s back in office.
There’s a bigger factor.
Geographic price variances within a state are still pretty frustrating. It’s 55 cents a gallon cheaper 35 miles away from where I live, for no obvious good reason.
Leaving aside Paxton’s raging hypocrisy for a moment, he’s suing because he needs something to blame for rate hikes other than climate change. The middle of the country is in a serious insurance crisis and Republicans are completely hapless now that the free market has decided they're not worth insuring.
Ken Paxton is a corrupt a-hole but I commend the several times now where he’s gone after shitty business practices and made things better for consumers nationwide and I guess it shows how complicated people, even villains, can be.
You can take solace in that the point they make isn’t the one you agree with.
It’s crazy to me that people are just now finding out about this.
Lower case letter logos are all the rage 24 years ago.
That new GM logo makes it look like it’s for a toy line competing with Fisher-Price.
It’s always jarring to hear that someone who you vigorously disagree with on basically everything makes a sound point. It always makes me wonder if I’ve somehow become an asshole without realizing it.
“Companies are using invasive technology to violate the rights of our citizens in unthinkable ways,” Paxton said in a statement. “Our investigation revealed that General Motors has engaged in egregious business practices that violated Texans’ privacy
