In a sign that I have thought way, way too much about this, I tried to make sense of the completely contradictory continuity that the movies try to foist off on us, and pretty much decided that there are three levels to it (warning: this is fairly deep nerdery, even by AV Club levels):
Jesus, no one’s brought up “I appreciate the Muppets on a Much Deeper Level Than You?” I don’t even recognize you anymore, AV Club.
It really seems like a step down to me from the other two, in that they’re already revisiting the origin (and in a much less interesting way), and it leans on the humans way too much. It does have some great songs, though.
I have not been able to bring myself to watch Muppet Christmas Carol. I just associate it too closely with Jim Henson’s death, which wrecked me at the time.
It’s not really that hard to make a phony ebay account, and it only takes a couple fake people to drive the price through the roof.
If I had to guess, it’s probably more than certain crimes, like murder, where it’s very difficult to convincingly fake, but less common than things like staged accidents for insurance fraud, where there’s a clear benefit for the faker. But that’s just a guess.
I’m much more willing to be skeptical with the one-offs; there’s always the possibility that it was something more innocent that got misconstrued. Most of the accusations lately have been patterns of behavior; clearly, Weinstein and Spacey were serial predators, and a few others (Dustin Hoffman, for example) were, at…
There’s also cases like the guy who sued Brian Singer a while back, where it sounds like - while Singer was guilty of the allegation in the general sense - he wasn’t guilty of it in the specific instance he was being accused.
I think that’s entirely true, but it’s also not especially relevant to my point. I’m by no means saying that one false allegation means they’re all false. I’m saying that one false allegation gives the people who want this issue to disappear an excuse to pretend that they’re all false.
Bigotry has a lot to do with that.
I didn’t realize that they hired David Cronenberg as a concept artist.
If one of these allegations turn out to be false, the whole “outing the harassers” movement is liable to cave in, because the people in power will be able to use it as an excuse to ignore things again. I don’t want Jeffrey Tambor to have harassed anyone, but false allegations are both extremely rare and extremely…

Oh fucking hell.
Can someone finally find him a Russian hooker that looks just like his daughter so he can stay away from twitter for 14 seconds?
It’ll probably be a bed in a Russian brothel.
It’s really, really good. Kristin Ritter is hilarious in it.
