“Can you provide proof of just a single instance where “options” were taken away to cover the cost if adding AI lipsync?”
Fair points, and dubs are fine for those who prefer or need them. But if having a CG’ed dub availabe limits access to original language format, then it risks restricting choices, not broadening them. I know, that may not happen, but I remember how hard it was to find Japanese showings or copies of Ghibli films for a…
It does take away options when a studio spends money to release an AI lipsynched version, and I want to watch the original. It's cheap and easy to include a hundred sub tracks on a disc, for example, or a couple soundracks But now we're talking entire video streams. It is possible (certainly not guaranteed) that…
Yeah, anime is one area where it can be less distracting, provided the dub is any good. But often, the English dub just sounds super-rushed, while the Japanese dialogue feels just right (even though I don't understand it)
They do provide subtitles in just about every language, you know. Nothing I said implied “American privilege”. On the contrary, I watch non-Engish movies all the time, and prefer the presentation in the original language. You want dubbed soundtracks? No problem. But this article is about providing entire videos…
Exactly. I have yet to see a live-action foreign film where dubbing improved the experience over subtitles. Even good dubs always seem to be a step down from the original actor’s performance.
Came here to point out the excellent (as always) FortNine video. I personally am not in the market for an airbag vest, but if I were, it would be a simple tether design.
I went through an ebook phase (Kindle) a few years back, and have all but given up on them. Ebook prices are too high, buying and lending too restrictive (you’re locked into one vendor), and the cons of the e-reader experience, IMO, still outnumber the pros (perhaps unless you’re a frequent traveler).
Cool, thanks!
Try the Japanese trailer https://hypebeast.com/2021/4/new-yasuke-anime-teaser-showcases-japanese-cast
Wow, a Buick I would have wanted to own? It *must* be an abomination...
Ditto - I made it like 1/3 of the way through the trailer before saying "eff this". No idea why they’re pushing it so hard here, while they actively ignore other titles (cough*residentalien*).
Good to know... I probably will give a pair a try. In my case I don’t do much gaming so I’m not that latency sensitive, but it will be interesting to do some comparison tests. In any event I suspect it may be a YMMV area (kind of like wifi for that matter)
I’ve looked into powerlome adapters, as I have a “gap” in my home ethernet wiring, and what I’ve read is very hit-or-miss. Your power lines can be very noisy depending on what appliances are running in your home, and this can result in dropped packets. Packet loss = retransmits = latency. Also, there can be situations…
That reminds me of my favorite kinja gif:
Sounded pretty tongue-in-cheek to me: “How did we get it? Fell off a truck"
Awesome article, both because of the important semi-missing context for Sam, and for teaching (some of) us something new.
Ditto here - I appreciate performance cars, bikes, and skilled drivers, would love the opportunity to try my hand at amateur racing, and really enjoyed Ford V Ferrari. So you’d think I’d be into Indy, or MotoGP, or any of them. But I just find watching races to be boring as hell. Maybe the fact that I can’t stand…
6'4"+ here, 36" inseam, plenty of mass. There are definitely options out there for us, but I can’t yet speak from experience on the Royal Enfields. I *am* interested in getting one for my (much shorter) wife, which means I would also sneak it out for fun runs :) I have considered Bonnevilles for myself, and am…
