They only allow unaccompanied minors to fly direct and because you book in advance, they know how many minors have tickets and only grant 3/flight.

My oldest, who’s 18 now, has been flying alone back & forth across the country since she was five. And when our youngest was five (and oldest eight), they flew together alone. It was like clockwork. A lot of regulations and paperwork but otherwise uneventful.

I'm sure they know the city where they live but they trusted the adult employees to make sure the plane was taking them there.
