I think the way it works is that Sony is the parent company to a bunch of labels. Think of them as completely individual “companies” with Sony being an investor. So they can offer Kesha the option of working with another producer or middle management (which they have) but placing her under a different label is like

This is a fucked up situation but I’m honestly curious about where was her mother when Kesha dropped out of high school and move across country to live with a music producer (who she wasn’t in a relationship with)? Where was she when Kesha signed and RE-signed busted recording contracts? Her mom is a songwriter

Helllooooo! 😉

Yeah it does but if I remember that book correctly, the “right” places, times, connections, and people, all tended to be accessible in wealthy white communities. I do agree with the entire “bootstrap” mentality though. You must work for success, but I also think a whole lot of people don’t even have boots to begin

Yeah but employment “choices” are often determined by educational “choices” which in turn are often determined by housing “choices...”

I, like Clover, couldn't bare witness to the countdown so I deleted and went with CloudMagic as well. *sigh*

I’m thinking because it’s airing on ABC that somewhere in her contract she has to “participate” in some of the network sponsored clusterfucks. It’s just unfortunate that they tapped her for this (unfortunate for her, a blessing for the oscars).

Nah, it’s equally as important. Creating roles for POC = Casting POC in roles that portray POC.

“This casting choice is boiling down Michael Jackson to his skin pigment.”

When I see her dig up my neighbor’s flowerbed, take a shit/piss, and cover it up, then I believe. (Not to mention any other of my cat’s fuckery that’s unexplainable to me but makes perfect sense to them.)

Wentworth Miller

It’s not a remake. He re-used the name to take away power from the original. Like when you do a google search—now a movie about Nat Turner’s slave rebellion may get the top hits.

Don’t forget.

But no one goes to these terribly cast movies. You’d think they’d pause and say, “Hmm that whole casting of white stars in POC roles really isn’t making us any money. I have a great idea. Why don’t we cast POC in roles that actually are POC.”

Why does the discussion need to go beyond that? BECAUSE HE WAS BLACK! You cast Asians to play Asians, Black folks to play Black folks, Latinos to play Latinos, etc.

Oh god.

But the casting choice is making a statement about race and identity. And that statement is: fuck y’all & fuck diversity in casting.

But even if he was fucked up in the head about being Black, you don’t cast a white man to play him. Just because he denied his Blackness (in your opinion, not mine) doesn’t make him not Black.
