Tell me again why I should be watching this?

My children aren’t entitled to Medicare/Medicaid despite the fact that my tax dollars pay for it. So there’s that. “Entitled” doesn’t make it right. We're 7th generation American citizens by the way.

Ok maybe I have this sideways but I thought that non American citizen birth mothers needed 2 forms of official id with one being either a passport or visa. Those being denied have ONLY the Mexican consulate ID cards.

With passports perhaps?

Not denying your mother’s white skin privilege, but maybe her having a passport (and possibly a visa) was a huge reason why she wasn’t questioned.

I listened to this on NPR and it didn’t effect passport and visa holders. It effected people who ONLY had Mexican consular cards and that’s it. If they presented a visa or passport in addition, then getting a birth certificate is not a problem. I thought it was similar when you need to show 2 forms of official id when

Yes but the child is allowed federal, state and city services like Medicaid & public schooling. Both of which are woefully overburdened.

Ok sure. Then the Jewish workers in the concentration camps worked too. Albeit without pay, but workers nonetheless.

See. This is why accuracy in history books is so important. You have simply proven the point. Go brush up on African history before the transatlantic slave trade and then come back and answer your own question.

“African people who were captured, enslaved, and forced to work.” There. That works.

After reading some of the comments about asking for permission before touching someone’s hair, I'd like to take the leap and say, just don't ask. Period. It's rude regardless. People are humans, not pets and being polite about stupid shit is still stupid. And so the fuck what if you don't know what African American

What, no outrage? Oh my bad, she isn't a male pro athlete. Carry on ladies.

Actually, yes. Algebra I.

Yup. She did say it. Exactly how you explained it.

Fuck! If my black husband and I (because I'm hetero) went to a sperm bank and I gave birth to a biracial child 9 months later, I'd be stressed the fuck out too. (I'm black by the way.)

Maybe it’s not about “going through the trouble” maybe it’s about she simply doesn’t know how. And maybe that causes stress. And maybe learning how to raise a child of color is going to cost them more time and money on top of what it already costs in order to learn how. Why shouldn't the agency that caused this

But there is a huge difference being raised in a mostly white area but being raised by BLACK PEOPLE. Because the struggles that you may have faced, your parents were extremely qualified to help you with. In fact, it’s my guess that they empowered you with such a positive sense of self based on personal experience that

That doesn't make he racist. It makes her honest. Having a child of color has created an added layer of stress that she wouldn't be experiencing if her child was white.

Of course people adapt, and for this child’s sake I hope they do, but it seems that because she said how fucking hard it is to raise a child of color OUT LOUD, she’s being vilified for it.

Not knowing how to do your daughter’s hair can cause undo stress. Not being able to connect your child with a part of their history can cause stress. Your child not having friends who look like her can cause stress. Having to explain to your child why people treat her differently can cause stress. It is stressful
