I don’t buy into the AV Club (and, maybe, your) eagerness to reach some kind of overall assessment of whether a celebrity is good or bad, and then judge all their behavior that way, regardless of what the behavior is.

I think public opinion has swung so far in Jackson’s favor about the incident that people are willing to believe things about it that plainly are not true. Jackson did not deserve the amount of heat she got about the halftime show, and she certainly did not deserve to get heat while Timberlake skated, but it’s clear…
The low period of . . . being accused a year ago of using a blaccent 20 years ago? No, I don’t think that’s relevant.
Absolutely, the general public likes familiar things, not to be challenged. If everybody liked different stuff there’d be no pop music.
Tubi has a lot of crazy b-movies (or even lower grade) that are really interesting but would never meet Criterion’s standards too. It’s pretty incredible if you’re into trash cinema, grindhouse etc
Tubi and Criterion Channel are really the ends of a horseshoe. If you can’t afford the latter, the former is a perfectly fine poor person’s alternative (though the upscale movies are certainly fewer).
“Why would anyone work for three years on something that wasn’t yours? Why?”
Maybe I was just a dumbass 13-year-old, but I liked Lynch’s Dune.
It’s got more “classic” movies, in that you will have heard of them and they have some pop culture relevance. Netflix has too many originals starring nobody, or titles so generic you can’t remember them right after seeing them. They’re both mediocre, but better take a chance with Tubi, because at least it will be a…
Yes, but people under 30 are idiots.
There is some fascinating capitalization going on in that image.
What does this mean?
I had to take a second and make sure I didn't misread the theater chain they were talking about when I read that. It's such a throwaway line in the grand scheme of things, but I'm sitting here thinking "Wait, how could someone who knows anything about the Alamo say *that*?"
The dine-in theater chain, which popularized noisy screenings thanks to its patented meal service...
I’m not really worried about Sony buying Alamo from an anti-trust point of view. They only have 36 theaters so it’s not Sony can wield their might and not show their movies elsewhere or only show Sony movies at their theater. If Disney bought AMC, that would be a bigger anti-trust problem since AMC is a much bigger…
I feel like one of the biggest delineations between Gen X and subsequent generations is that Gen Xers hold no expectation that a corporation should reflect their values, or should even pretend to have values. I prefer my corporations soulless, thank you very much.
I mean you get that from the lyrics. The traditionally woman part never says that she does not want to stay. All her excuses are about what family and friends will say.
‘It’s a song about, as our Britt Hayes put it, “a woman being held hostage by some guy who may or may not have drugged her adult beverage.”’
I am here to once again assert that Furiosa was not a sure thing. Fury Road wasn’t the box office hit some people remember it being. But I agree with everything else.
It’s the time of the year for people to ignore context and dump on a sweet song again, woot!
