Having just rewatched the first series a few weeks ago, ATLA is very clear that some people are born benders and some are not. Kitara is born a bender. Sokka is not. Azula is born a very powerful bender and Zuko is born a much less powerful bender. They all have to practice to hone their skills.

Nah, no retcon there. You were just completely misreading the show.

Hey kids! It’s the Justice League!

And if there’s one thing Catholic institutions know, it’s privates.

Jeffrey Combs would be fucking great if they ever decide to adapt the stuff where Vic Sage passes the mantle of The Question to Rene Montoya, if only because it would mean more Combs as The Question

It’s not one or the other. Don’t ask me to shut my brain off during a movie. I’ll just rewatch Mad Max: Fury Road which is perfect and shiny and chrome and perfect for every brow.

You keep throwing that SJW thing around like it’s effective, pumpkin. It’s adorable.

As was often alsothe case with the Batman the Animated Series, I think Superman:tAS nailed a lot of casting better than live-action ever will. Dana Delany’s Lois was perfect, although I agree that Hatcher was the best live-action one.

Man, I really loved the old AV Club reviews of classic Trek. They were insightful and fun and seemed to enjoy taking the shows for what they were instead of trying to force them to be something else.

I guess my point here is when did Zack get replaced by his mirror universe counterpart?

Skarsgard and Franco prove the days of Hollywood rewarding mediocre white men are far from over.

Honestly, I think all of this could’ve been avoided if they had featured more flashbacks to actually show what the hell went down with Luke’s Jedi academy. Hamill’s criticisms were pretty fair, but the scenario presented in the film would have worked well as a way to bridge Luke’s past optimism with his present

“I do believe that, and if you don’t, things must be very strange around your house.”

Star Wars: And Everything Was Pretty Much Fine is not a particularly compelling tale to hang a new generation of movies on.” True, but the expanded universe did plenty to create new threats, dangers and issues, while introducing rocking new characters. Instead, oh, the rebellion is in the same state it always was?

YES, THIS. The backstory of a character vs. The backstory of the conflict is a very different thing. I could care less about who Snoke is or where he learned the Force or all the jazz. But how he managed to conquer the galaxy? That shit is kinda important and, without it, makes this whole trilogy feel rather

Logan.

I know we should cheer on the team and their efforts to do something about the state of the world. I also get how people they meet there are so too afraid of rattling the status quo that they imprison themselves in fear of consequences. But when consequences is death of not just yourself but countless other people

Yeah I found the idea that religion is something we’ll just “grow out of” unbelievably patronizing and smug. Not to my taste at all.

there are a lot of amazing movies on that list. Wonder Woman isn’t one of them. It was okay. Weird story and bad acting/effects, but it was okay. Most certainly not deserving of being mentioned with these others.

Nothing is quite so persuasive as a blanket assertion that the characters are “bland and totally forgettable” without any explication, citation, or comparison. It’s the best possible combination of being lazy while using other people’s insecurities to make a point.
