Dealers like to make money - if anything it got bubbled up that they were actively pursuing it in local markets given their tech’s knowledge of batteries and so it is an opportunity to add something to a powerpoint for investors.

Not sure, but my assumption is that it is battery associated. Dealers throughout the country can work on Tesla’s “oily” bits like wheels, tires, and suspension without much specialized knowledge.

The why is just because techs have to do training to be EV certified and not electrocute themselves with the batteries; this is just an extra revenue stream for the dealers given that maintenance on EVs is limited. They are uniquely prepared compared to other OEMs to support EV maintenance.
