The bail system is a racket. It exists to disproportionately squeeze money out of (surprise surprise) lower income people of color. It should be abolished, but the bail bonds industry has major lobbying power.

This bugs me too. He shot those people, whether or not he should be jailed for it is the point of the trial. But he did shoot them. Adding “alleged” before the verb feels very gaslight-y.
