Mental illness is not a benefit of the doubt. It is not an excuse and it does not mitigate this type of behavior. It does make it possible to be treated and minimize, if not stop, this kind of behavior (it may not rid them of the racist ideals, but it would tend to make them less likely to act like this.)

I totally agree with don’t mess with shoplifters and don’t fight a robber (although I doubt many mall stores get robbed.
