I see your point but I was raised with plenty of privilege, as was my husband, and we continue to have a good life, which definitely benefits our 11-year old son (private school, good vacations, etc.).

I keep paper copies of receipts (and some contracts) for tax purposes, just in case my laptop, Skydrive, the cloud and Mozy all crash at once.

Recently, I have seen young women (I am 46 but I think they were in their early 20s?) here in Austin get their index fingernails painted a complementary color to the other eight nails. Is that a thing, too? It was subtle and didn't look bad.

My son was born in 2002 at Johns Hopkins Hospital (my husband was research faculty at the time). Somewhat-normal delivery and two full days post-delivery (three days total-labor was 13 hours) cost us $3000, IIRC.
