The way mine was repaired was replacing all the lead-free solder on the board with the much more reliable 60/40 solder.

Mine did that and I bought a Slim, and had a coworker who is a genius with electrical boards go over my dead one and fix it. Has never had a problem since. Bonus is now my fiancee and myself can play or use a ps3 at the same time in totally different areas of the house.
