It wasn’t set in space to “make you forget what it was copying.” It was set in space because space is cool AF and setting it there would sell tickets. I think Cameron was fine if we remembered what he was copying. 

I will give Avatar credit for creating the only fully realized truly alien world in film. All the Star Wars alien planets are just different Earth environments (desert planet, ocean planet, beach planet, forest moon, etc.) none of them are really alien. I was really disappointed with Season 2 in general. The whole play within a play just seemed pointless. The plot line of Rue getting into trouble with that tough drug dealer lady just got dropped with no resolution. And the way Fezco’s thing got dragged slowly out over two episodes was just excruciating. Great actors…
