*approving this comment* (thumbs up isn't working?)
Wow. Years of tweaking my system, and I've gotten to pretty much the same thing for a daily schedule! Don't start working until you are inspired and know what you are going to work at. Lunch breaks are important. Take time to evaluate your day, organize things for tomorrow, and then relax.
I just tried it, and it didn't work so well. The first 7 or so programs were uninstalled without a hitch. But then things started to get weird. Some of the uninstall dialogs started to demand constant focus. As in I'd click some other window and the dialog would immediately steal the focus back. This made things a bit…
@BluegrassGeek: I was only commenting on the statement that monospaced fonts have died and that they were junky looking.
@Christopher Todesco: I felt the same way. Content is far more important than formatting, especially now that we have moved on typewriters! When the words are stored electronically, they can easily be reformatted. I, out of habit, used two spaces after each sentence for this reply. And yet the Lifehacker posting…
Wait, monospaced fonts are dead? "loose and uneven"?
@Platypus Man: Google 'software informer download', and you'll see what sort of torment is possible. They have everything and yet nothing. Even the 37th page is still all just software informer with fake results..
Does nobody else hate software informer? Seeing all the (often misplaced) hate for ExpertsExchange makes me feel a bit left out that my personal worst site hasn't been mentioned here!
@patilsaurabhr: More likely a problem with your script? Does the same memory problem occur if you do all the searches manually for an hour? I've used AHK for this before and it worked alright. iMacros for Firefox is another good option you might want to look into.
@goober: A common issue that everyone should keep in mind when interpreting results like this. However, the important part is more likely the discussion generated. Whether it has declined or not, it looks like improvement is desired — that's the takeaway message for me.
@Hegemon: Adblock wouldn't work, as the page you land on won't even have the replies if you don't come from a search engine. I only ever find my self on ExpertsExchange when it is one of the last remaining results left in a Google search, so I've never really thought about how to redirect quickly. Your cache trick…
@jalb: When I want answers, I'm not going to exclude a site just because I dislike it. I avoid them as much as possible, but there have been plenty of times where they provide the answer I'm looking for.
@JohnnyricoMC: The answers are at the bottom. The registration banner is just a (cheap annoying) trick.
While ExpertsExchange definitely isn't the first place I look for answers, I don't think it is worth blocking entirely. The "Subscribe now for full access" banner is just a trick — as long as you are coming from a search engine you can find the replies at the bottom of the page without registering. And sometimes…
software.informer.com. It'll be the first site on my Google search blacklist if that feature is ever added.
@MavrixWK: Wonderfully convenient. Thank you!
@gnur: Indeed. All of them I've tried are just workarounds, not solutions. Sometimes the lock screen is still there, other times it'll pop up when you are in the middle of something else. And as gnur said, sometimes the system will just start acting funny (until you turn the screen off/on).
Refuses to update for my zip, even though it validates. Guess I'll try finding nearby zips?
@mrdamgoode: ... just don't do it again.
