I said this in another comment, but the matriarchs of my family seem happy to buy mostly whatever when folks are downsizing their craft stashes. I feel like it’s usually a thicker weight of some kind of acrylic/blend. They’ll wear through in a couple winters’ regular use, but then I’ll repair them.

Honestly, not sure a lot of the time. My mom and mummo are big fans of buying huge lots of yarn when folks are downsizing their craft stashes at yard sales, thrift stores, etc. and half the time they don’t have labels anymore. Some kind of acrylic/blend is a safe bet, although I have a wool blend pair that I treasure

I’m about 90% sure that ‘tossut’ is just ‘slippers’ in Finnish, haha, but you’re welcome to steal a name!!

I would never buy a pair of house shoes, but that’s because my mummo makes tossut at such a rate that I will never need a different kind of house slipper. These are an example of tossut (am working from home today, mine are orange but otherwise similar). I have been led to believe they are common for Finns but that

OKAY I am living this story right now with a different Doc Martens style - I got their Bianca chelsea boot on clearance a couple of years ago and it is my favourite boot of all time. It has the standard Doc lug sole but with a pointed toe, and in patent leather it’s just flashy enough, just tough enough but still

To be that asshole for a second and play devil’s advocate - if high fashion was putting out a frivolous, ‘fun’, high-sparkle full colour aesthetic right now, wouldn’t that feel a bit Marie Antoinette? I get that it’d be a fun distraction and the author is expressing nostalgia for a recent past, but I feel like anyone

Yeah, I felt this way for pretty much all of last year (wedding was in October). All of the structures and constructed meaning around weddings make it really hard to maintain a sense of what it was that you intended when you started into it. Par example - I’m in my 30's and financially comfortable. I did not need or

Korean-seasoned anything + melted cheese = god tier eating.

I used to listen to Grimes all. the. time. but I hate to admit how much her presence in the media over the last few years has grated on me. It’s to the point where I’m not sure I want to listen to this at all? I was game to follow the artistic shifts from Geidi Primes/Halfaxa through Visions and Art Angels, but

I eat smoked oysters (or the similar smoked mussels) every other week or so? Those little guys have SO MUCH IRON, so I eat them for both function and pleasure when I’m starting to feel run down, and they’re usually < $2 / can!

Just chiming in to say: kudos to your mom for being better than her own mother.

I can’t say I’d never eat one again, but I can’t have these in the house. Zero self control around this product.

They’re not OK, to me, because it is still WINTER. Asking me to think about sandals when I’m trying to plot which ankle boots I can cop on ‘end of season’ sales and still wear for 4 months.....it’s very dissonant. Ask me later.

This is great kinja.

Given how much they were both dancing, I felt like the presence of the dudes gave their lungs a literal breather? I didn’t find it unwelcome.

‘Mexican Chocolate’ versions of anything that’s already chocolate would get a purchase from me where there wasn’t one previously. There was briefly a Haagen Dazs product with this combo, but no more, and I mourn it.

Probably enabling....but colds/flu are miserable, and ‘medicinal’ hot toddies are both pleasurable and socially acceptable, so take the good where you can.

Just finished Jia’s book last night - I enjoyed it a lot.

My favourite tisane forever and always. I’ve had the delicious spiced-and-sweetened versions, but more often than not I drink mine plain. I’m half way through a liter for the day right now!! Today’s is hot, because it’s winter, but it’s good cold and unsweetened also.

I opened this because I wanted context re: what year this Chowder show aired (also in the too old camp, but by a smaller margin than I thought! What a delight.) I received that information in the first line and am very satisfied, thank you.
