My partner’s family has a special dinner roll recipe that gets made for Thanksgiving, and Christmas. I think it’s a homemade version of Pillsbury crescent rolls? Not 100% sure since I was raised on dark rye bread.....but since I was raised on dark rye bread (which I still love) these rolls are even more ridiculously

Two things that were a staple of the Thanksgiving table beyond the usual suspects in my house growing up were lanttulaatikko and a ‘carrot salad’. As kids my cousins and I would go absolutely apeshit for the carrot, which, I learned as an adult, was literally just grated carrot with nothing else. I will still argue

FLANDERS. REDS. Get out the Rodenbach you’ve squirreled away, it’s the perfect thing to hang with all the richness.

They absolutely still have the vanilla Frosty in Canada, and this correspondent would know because they’re my vice of choice for the duration of the annual promo when a small one is 99c. Birthday cake does not entice me as a third option.

This is so accurate. I actually have a pair of Doc Marten chelsea boots, but flatter than the ones in the header pic. I love them for their own sake, but I especially love them when it’s time to leave a party and I can be 100% sure which boots are mine.

At my desk, my #1 snack product preference is cheddar Goldfish. I find them more filling than other salty junk if I’m doing the sad meal replacement thing, and I haven’t gotten tired of them over the course of this endless PhD.

I don’t think you’re wrong, but I think it’s missing the point to criticize a very simple joke for being reductive. Like, it’s two words, a quip. Of course it’s not a substantial contribution to the discourse....but that’s not what it was intended to be? It’s often very funny, and briefly emotionally satisfying as a

Nothing I said had to do with being young?

The meltdown over ‘ok boomer’ has been so delicious to this millennial. HOW MANY YEARS of shitty op-eds have there been about how bad millennials supposedly are, vs. how long it took for boomers (or the ones with media platforms) to lose their minds over one teen meme? Big sensitive hypocrites.

This was one of the first things I put on my recent wedding registry. Up until now I’ve used a this ugly red plastic bowl, the kind that they sell in summer time for ‘poolside entertaining’ (ha ha ha ha), probably 18" in diameter....but now I have a shiny new STEEL giant bowl. I’m in love with it already. I meal prep

Clementines coming into season right as the days get REALLY short and cold pre-Christmas is darkly convenient.

For me it’s a strong either/or. Zero appetite or ALL the appetite. There are very specific open-face sandwiches that are served at funeral receptions in my cultural community and I probably ate a whole loaf of bread this way when my grandfather passed. Grief and depression have different nuances which probably plays

I like to cut the apple into wedges, then dip them into the peanut butter, but otherwise this right here is the trick. No matter how out of it I get, I always have apples and peanut butter in the house, and it’s just the right size / freshness / junk-ness (the apple alone would not be enticing) of a snack to fuel

I’m grown enough now that I know what I can pull off and what I can’t. One thing I can’t wear is anything lavender, it makes me look ill. And yet, I still find myself drawn to lavender t-shirts constantly because of this. dumb. scene.

Those peanut butter cookies that you can supposedly make with peanut butter, sugar and an egg? I tried, 3 times. 3 puddles. HOW.

I’d argue that the phonics are closer to you-stow-lay-pah.....still pretty fun :)

I find that halloumi is saltier; the main impression from bread cheese is milkiness. Halloumi is slightly denser / has fewer internal cracks than the bread cheese I’ve eaten.

Hahaha no! I don’t think I’ve seen that particular sketch either, assuming you’re talking about Portlandia? I do joke that where I live is Canada’s Portland, though....a LOT about the culture is very similar.

I have a lot of friends who are very cautious drivers, which I think they think makes them good drivers, but I don’t necessarily agree. It’s good to be aware, but being cautious can also mean being hesitant or behaving in ways that other drivers don’t anticipate.

One time my partner was into his cups and was trying to describe why he liked the way I make soup, and landed on describing it as ‘wet vegetables’. Sounds disgusting, but was absolutely accurate - I am wretchedly bad at hitting a traditional ratio of broth-to-stuff. There are so many lentils / greens / noodles / etc
