I can't help but think Bertie's dad will take up the gauntlet when he finds out that Bertie's been bested by his rival/arch nemesis/junkie-surgeon extraordinaire. Safe to say next season will reveal Thackeray's hubris being even further tamed - perhaps HE'LL be working at the 'negro infirmary'!

It WAS a great visual, that smile! It was how my husband looked when I told him we were expecting a baby, on two separate occasions! Too bad they could not hold on to that joy - but then, it wouldn't be 'The Knick'! Fabulous show unlike ANYTHING I've seen or heard before and getting better each week.

Why ask for this route of delivery when it would function as anesthesia and topically dull the entire experience? Is that what she's into?

he 'gives her some down below'? Are we sure about this? I missed the audio and would like to know how we know this?

They use an animatronic baby which was indeed startling to watch as it seized and displayed very realistic decerebrate activity.

liron - my immediate thoughts, too! A surgeon guards his hands like the Hope Diamond(s) but perhaps Algernon does not yet appreciate the need to nurture and protect those instruments?

Why didn't Algernon stay in Boston if he was able to practice at a higher level there? It makes NO sense that he is not hired at the 'Negro' infirmary to a position of the highest echelons where he can do whatever surgery he likes and could there, actually effect some change. His basement practice relegates him to

Sorry but I thought the musical guest was entirely lackluster. Both songs were identical dirges which I found morose and monotonous. I was dozing in record time. I've never seen Lena Dunham before and thought her monologue unfunny; but SHE was quite hilarious in her skits. Jay Pharoh is also a riot. Weekend update
