THIS IS LITERALLY PAY TO PLAY.
THIS IS LITERALLY PAY TO PLAY.
Welp. Here we go. Time to find out if our democracy is really as resistant to demagoguery as we all believed.
I’m sad. Everything about this is just sad. I’m not scared or angry or frustrated (ETA: anymore, at least not right now), just sad and disappointed that we’re stuck with this fucker for 4 or more years and that we’ve validated hatred and anti-intellectualism.
I really hate this “we won, get over it!” It’s not a football game- this shit is real. We have to face real concerns. The system is set up to allow and encourage dissent and compromise!
So glad Carroll mentions the debates about Tituba’s race. And yes, the collective memory so often touts the Puritans as champions of freedom of religion. Fuck no! Like the evangelicals today who decry “sharia law” while demanding that everyone study the bible in school and say “Merry Christmas” the Puritans didn’t…
I liken the current narrative as the modern equivalent of ye’ age old “If she floats, she’s a witch, if she drowns , welp.. sorry bout’ that then. She probably used her magic to stage the drowning anyways”.
After all, Republicans have spent the last eight years providing us with such a great example of maturity and acceptance.
When Michelle Obama spoke of the absence of hope she spoke the truth. I am aware of my privilege, enough to know that what the loss of hope means to me is mostly symbolic (or second hand). But to the residents of Flint, to the Native Americans in Dakota, to so many others this dearth of humanity, of compassion will…
They are not pro-life. They are pro-blastocyst and anti-human.
Same here. I was dealing with some major personal stuff at the time, and couldn’t see how far gone he was and how imminent the breakdown was until it was happening. Even then, he wasn’t diagnosed bipolar for another 2 Years and took some time to find the right med cocktail.
Having gone through it myself, being in the middle of the slow descent of your partner into a full-on bipolar episode is not an experience I would wish on anyone. I had no idea what was going on. It was like the body snatchers, since neither of us knew he was bipolar and he was insistent I was the problem. He still…
Even with medication, it’s damn hard. My husband’s breakdown played out a lot like Kanye’s, and it was awful. I wish them both well.
It would be nice if this could spark a public conversation about how to recognize when someone is suffering a breakdown, but I’m sure it’ll instead be about shitting on Kim Kardashian for not seeing it sooner.
Hopefully this illustrates an important point to liberals and progressives:
Interesting takeaway from this election cycle: Turns out that the GOP, the party that routinely wraps itself in the American flag and the Constitution, not really all that interested in democracy.
It’s been interesting watching Twitter after the press conference. All the reporters are talking about the Russia Hacks or the fainting episode or anything but the two solid minutes where Obama lambasted them for running with the hacked email narrative for 6 months then wondering why it was such a big deal.
thanks to efforts from Hearst and the organization she works with, the National Center on Sexual Exploitation.
On the list of Classic Blunders right after “Never go against a Sicilian when death is on the line” is “never get in a small town turf war over a cat”
The problem is less what he says at these stupid fucking rallies than the fact that he’s having them at all.
