In a show that only rarely used Gates McFadden well, I think the scene where the ex-Picards meet each other is an excellent use for her. There's so much implied backstory in their brief interchange.

To be fair, the claim of the DS9 crowd (of which I happen to be one) is not that 'it's the only good one', but 'it's the best one', a very different claim.
An additional thing that I really, really loved when I watched this film in the theaters: the reveal that First Contact was with the Vulcans. I couldn't help but choke up when the Vulcan explorer made the hand sign and said 'Live long, and prosper.' You too, my logical friends, you too.
I'm willing to cut the movie some slack. For one thing, it's a movie, and a little suspension of disbelief is called for.
