“Short Treks” gives me some measure of hope; I know that it’s not necessarily applicable to a full-on series, but it demonstrated both that the creatives can do really good and fun self-contained stories and that people are up to consume those kinds of stories.

I speculated elsewhere, but repeat it here: I have an inkling Kurtzman & co. are going to run with an Andromeda rip-off, where the Discovery acts as the last beacon of the Federation in a fragmented, chaotic universe. Heck I believe this was an abandoned idea at one stage years & years ago.

Palpatine will either not be in the movie at all and the trailer is a misdirect, or Palpatine will be a force ghost, both of which I’m fine with. 

I’d be a lot more forgiving of this if they had gotten Sam Witwer to do it.
