I love Shameless - it is my favorite TV show. However, it's failed in that I can see the writers' influence in the storytelling. The minute you sense the writer, either in a book or TV show, you've taken the reader/audience out of the story. Maybe, I'm still bitter about Season 6. I'm excited for Season 7.
