This kind of ignores the whole fact that those films achieved their greatness in the first place, in part, through those big surprises when they first released.

Yeah, but that neglects some key aspects here I think.

I should clarify that statement first. I think that applies more to what followed KOTOR, and not as much the original KOTOR game itself. I’d agree with your take here for KOTOR itself and how that measures up to the rest of Star Wars. No doubt that’s probably part of why the game is so beloved all these years later.

I don’t think I am.

There is definitely good stuff in there, don’t get me wrong. But the thing is, you know the story now, right? You know Revan’s big reveal and things like that. It’s a great, well-earned moment in game that truly resonated with many.

Therein lies the problem I think. The big reveal is already very well known at this point. It’s mojo and ability to astonish has already been spent.

I’m ready to be surprised here. I really want to be. I hope this ends up amazing.

There is a canon “Revan” for the Old Republic MMO I think, but it’s not why people have loved KOTOR or the character. It was something made well after the fact and I think it’s generally more tolerated than loved.

Not to mention how impossible Revan would be.

I often will only see a movie on opening night. Any new Marvel or Star Wars movie, I’m usually there, Thursday, 7pm, first show. I like the audience energy for those because the folks who are there really want to be there and enjoy the film.

I genuinely hope it’s a good movie for you.

Ah geez, typo on my part. Can’t change it now either.

The trinity of franchises that started great but have since become an embarrassment:

Yes it was! I love a story that isn’t afraid to end on a downbeat. I remember seeing it in the theater and much of the audience getting restless and murmuring when the nukes started flying, but I was just sitting there going “Wow, they actually had the balls to do it. This is fantastic.”

That’s cool, and I hope the movie is great for you.

All these Far From Home trailers are utter trash so far.

I just noticed that bit, and yeah, it admittedly does increase my interest ever so slightly.  Still not clamoring to see this, but I am a bit more intrigued now.

I’d buy that if he was directing, but he’s not. He’s only producing on this one.  And producing while, I imagine, being heavily distracted by the 4 Avatar movies on his own plate.

I feel like there’s still love for that franchise, so that one makes more sense to me.
