Yes, I’m sure Disney cancelling plans, circling the wagons, and punting out to 2022 is because everything was so overwhelmingly over-performing that they just needed a breather from it all. That must be precisely what is happening here.

Disney didn’t axe all their planned anthology movies because they were happy with the earnings. Solo was considered a failure by them. And yes, they “had” a plan - JJ Abrams gave them outlines they could use for Episodes 8 and 9 - which KK and Rian Johnson threw away because Johnson wanted to change course.

I’m not much of a Rebels fan, and I haven’t even bothered with Resistance, but I’ve seen what he can do in Clone Wars (of which I’m a huge fan).  I think he’s got the potential.
