The only VW I like is the Transporter. I drove those for work, very solid built cars and reliable. Also excellent in the snow with the 4-motion AWD thingy.

I always fire up my car, and let it run while I scrape ice and snow off my windows, by the time I'm done the heat has already started warming the inside of my car, so its all nice and cozy. My heated seats dont work. :(
