Okay, political nerd here - this opens up so many possibilities:

I always assumed the setting was a semi-fictional NY where the state had an open bar (i.e. no requirement for a law degree to become a lawyer). I can imagine keeping secret where you (didn't) go to law school, but it's absurd to imagine that Mike's gotten away this long with not even being an actual lawyer.
