In gear, the engine can turn using the forward motion of the car, without using fuel...this will also slow them down. Out of gear, in order for the engine to remain running, it needs fuel.

NASCAR has standards? Oh, sure they do, you can't bring anything but a soft sided cooler into the track.

I think Road Atlanta is a pretty cool track. I went to a couple Petit Le Mans (09,10) so NASCAR stock cars would be great there. The track doesn't really have grandstands though, like most NASCAR venues.

I think stock cars at Road Atlanta would be awesome. I'd go to that.

I remember this, the Audi camp was pretty secretive and worked on the car in their paddock area behind curtains so no one could see.

I watched someone jump a car once, but connecting the negative lead to one of the nuts on the strut tower, as a ground. At which point the jumper cables got so hot that the insulation melted off of them, due to the resistance.
