That movie is a particularly fascinating case of "What might have been" in terms of casting. Vince Vaughn was also considered for the lead, and before Jennifer Lawrence was cast as Tiffany, Zoey Deschanel, Anne Hathaway, and Angelina Jolie were all considered for the part.

"The high-pitched, often bumbling Alpha served as comic relief on the original series, where he was played by a number of voice actors, including Romy J. Sharf and Andy Sellner. "

"Max’s abysmal attempt to extend his odious brand tries to fake a redemptive character arc for its main characters, but it’s clear that no one has learned anything. No spiritual or emotional growth has occurred, despite what the presence of a tremblingly earnest Wilco song late in the film might suggest."

Michael Weatherly shows his range by leaving a show where he played a smug jackass whom we were supposed to think was the coolest guy in the ensemble for a show where he plays a smug jackass whom we are supposed to think is the coolest guy in the world as HEAD of the ensemble.

Keep in mind this is a Jeff Nichols movie. He likes to cast Michael Shannon against type.

Fun fact: when "Monk" was originally being developed at ABC, Michael Richards was supposed to play the title role. It wasn't until after it was rejected (I'm unsure if it was by Richards or the network) that the show moved to USA and Tony Shalloub was cast.

There was a rumor a while back that Spielberg was trying to get him to come out of retirement to play James Donovan Halliday in "Ready Player One"… that would have been awesome.

Shhhh! You can't contradict the snark! Snark is sacrosanct!

Sounds like they're actually making an effort to make the character designs look like… you know… the result of a curse.

It's not very often you hear somebody argue in FAVOR of dehumanization.

Funny how it always seems to be the people furthest to the left (or right) who insist they're most qualified to decide where "the center" is.

Why should anybody give a shit about what you "need"?

It's funny because it's untrue!

And then was fridged in a later episode with no Mandy, but instead had a young Gideon played in flashbacks by… Ben Savage!

You know, Adam Sandler could turn his entire reputation around in a second simply by pretending his movies were SUPPOSED to be unfunny and incompetent. He'd immediately be hailed as a master of Andy Kaufman/Tim & Eric style "anticomedy".

Last year, he made jokes about Angelina Jolie adopting children and Charlie Sheen using prostitutes and acted like they were current and edgy.

Ricky's faux 'edge' is leagues more phony than anything Jimmy Fallon has ever done.

Yeah, Ion's jazzy bumper theme is REALLY jarring during the SVU marathons.

"But Penn will probably find a way to reduce the character to tics and outbursts."
