Ok, from what I am seeing it doesn't look like this can actually duplicate itself: unless they just meant duplicating the case. It seems like it only extrudes and mills plastic.

Best Buy is probably marketing these to the same kinds of people who were willing to pay a $15 "calibration fee" for best buy setting up their 3D glasses for them.
I think the idea is that if Amazon can use an algorithm to predict ordering patterns accurately enough, they can stage your items close enough to you that same day shipping is feasible.
That's an interesting point. But if in 50 years drones replace ground troops completely; then wouldn't enemies just attack one another drone control centers? At that point, drone pilots would be in real danger and maybe combat medals would be appropriate.
No, I'm not buying that either. There are already many medals that reward non-combat excellence. I don't think a drone pilot deserves a combat medal for working a long hard shift if a soldier in a supply depot can't earn a combat medal for long hard shifts loading supplies.
I feel like Moore's Law kinda guarantees that my favorite computer will always be my most recent one. Maybe I just lack any emotional connection to my machines.
I would say no. The Silver Star is awarded for courage or gallantry in combat, and without personal danger I don't think you can display courage. Like I said, they should be recognized for their professionalism; but giving them combat medals is a bit of an insult to people who put their lives on the line to earn the…
Here is a list of the awards and decorations for the US military:
Oooh, yeah, that's a good one...
PS: Go Fermi! Go NuStar!
When considering the value of NASA, most people (including politicians) usually just pay it lip service. Everyone likes the idea of keeping alive space exploration; but how many people are really willing to do what it takes to make it happen? During the 60's space race, NASA's budget was around 3% of the federal…
Eh, they just need a little practice. I have seen people being very productive on acid before.
I think this could work really well if a few specific things are done:
At least the limited use minimized the number of guys masturbating on it.
Are you kidding? There's a name for a post apocalyptic wasteland inhabited by the remnants of humanity; surviving off the scavenged remains of a post industrial society and struggling against the elements to rebuild society: Burning Man. It's pretty awesome, and I will miss the Playa this year.
Also, for those interested in building their own domes, here is a great tool to calculate all the strut lengths:
The thing about assembling an geodesic dome is that you have to have either a pretty solid understanding of the geometry, or at least a crew that has been well trained in their assembly and pretty much understands the geometry by wrote. For a ~30' 4V dome like the one pictured you also either need a crane, or…
I don't really get this either, maybe at a much lower price point it would make sense? The only thing I can think of here is that it's the same chip from a Nexus tablet, so it becomes an Android OS that uses your monitor as a screen. Maybe this is really going to be marketed as Google's answer to the XBox more than…
It actually would surprise me if Google knew about this issue in advance and decided not to fix it; because that would mean that Google got an advanced copy of the new Mac Book Air to test on, and I just don't see Apple giving away one of their tightly guarded secrets to their biggest competitor. And on that note, I…
"Blame Google chrome?" I know there are a lot of Apple fans at Gizmodo, and maybe I am reading too much into this statement; but if I was releasing a new computer (especially an ultrabook geared toward web browsing) that did NOT work properly with the words most popular web browser (I think it surpassed IE recently)…
