Yeah, buts it's really $300 for a 160GB (or probably a 200GB) thumb drive, with a free movie on it. I don't think they'll get many takers, except for professional video editors who might need a thumb drive that big for delivering content to their clients anyway, and might as well get a cool video that shows off the

Pretty much all science experiments throw away a good portion of the data. It's called data reduction, and it's basically just the result of scientists erring waaaaay over on the side of caution which how much data they actually measure versus how much data they really need to calculate results of some kind.

I want this guy to write a theme and a bunch of widgets and stuff for Linux. I mean, it would be cool on any OS, but Linux is obviously the most customizable.

This is an intelligence nightmare! Now all of America's enemies will be able to load up their smart phones with this application, and accurately identify the very aircraft that are bombing them into oblivion!

This is like those cases in Alabama where the legislature tried to pass a law re-defining Pi as 3

Yeah, I agree, this is not really a problem. If stars were far enough away to appear static for sea travel, then distant galaxies are far enough away to appear static for space travel. Add in pulsars and other stellar landmarks to use as a galactic GPS, and this problem is pretty much solved. NEXT!

Totally, for as well all know: Macs cannot get viruses

No, he's totally right, broken bottle == ingesting glass shards. Go ahead, be a bad ass while a piece of glass is tearing your GI tract open from the inside.

PS in case anyone feels vindictive and actually DOES decide to throw a spoiler my way, I will stop following this thread in 3...2...1...

Well, I wasn't playing about just starting game of thrones yesterday; but I was being a joking about the spoiler alert comment.

Wait, why did you put father in quotations? AH! NO MORE SPOILERS!!

Damned io9! I just (finally) got around to starting Game of Thrones today, and now I know that that little brat becomes king. Spoiler Alert?

Well, maybe you and I are interpreting the article differently, and it is admittedly a little ambiguous about what it means to be "based on 50-year-old American technology," but I would argue that the Viper IS based on the 50-year-old AH1 Cobra, even if it's just the basic shape of the chassis that remains. Also, the

Exactly, and I didn't see anything in the article that indicates that Iran's version won't have some (or all) of those same improvements to the basic design. Maybe they won't, but there is nothing that says a 50 year old design can't be a modern helicopter.

The US still flies Cobras (super Cobras anyway), it's a fantastic design that has stood the test of time.

Ha, I never even considered the possibility that the picture was supposed to be real. I assumed it was just like the picture of the elephant falling from the monorail, which was featured in an io9 article not too long ago.

If it had actually been a routine traffic stop he would have been busted. I only assume that someone found the illegal tracking device or somehow included that information in the report and that's why he is getting off.

The only person in this case you should be annoyed with is the bungling Officer Brian Metzger who had an easy bust on his hands and couldn't be bothered to get a warrant. He had to know the case would get thrown out, it's an open and shut case of an illegal search. He's obviously not very good at this job.

I don't necessarily agree with everything you said; but most importantly, I am not advocating anything that makes it HARDER to remain anonymous online; only measures that encourage people to discard their anonymity when they don't actually need it. If, as in your example, I was a closeted homosexual reluctant to
