I think you're projecting your own Islamophobia here. There's nothing in the work that indicates it is at all specifically criticizing Islam.

When someone thinks it's spelled "Hindooism", probably a safe bet they aren't the most reputable of theologians.

As someone not familiar with the book, that sequence was so damn good on a technical writerly level. Like, the sheer efficiency and speed in how they make you emotionally engage with the characters and fear for them is remarkable.

The V.O. production is surprisingly bad though. Maybe it's just Moss's voice but it's like, throw a comp on that shit and give it a few more EQ passes, amirite? *holds up hand for high-five before pretending to put hand through hair*

The whole "it's not a feminist story, it's a human story" feels kinda bullshitty to me. Like, feminism actually means gender-equal humanity, and human [x] is a designator attributed in the guise of equality that combs over the inherent misogyny of the human existence.

Awesome comment, thank you.

It's one of those things that *should* be a writerly-too-on-the-nose-to-be-realistic scene… but tragically it's not at all. It's basically just a real life reddit thread.

Thanks! Yeah, it's funny/weird to say, but reading an article by Film Crit Hulk totally changed my life in how I view rape culture, and I think actually using the word "rape" is a really important thing.

I feel a bit out of my element commenting on this as a man, but I was really pleasantly surprised Elizabeth actually used the word "rape." So often in cinema the word is tiptoed around with more obfuscating language, as to be more palatable for an audience. The Americans definitively saying "this was rape" feels like

That's originally a Simpsons joke though, isn't it?

Yeah that's probably a good call. Would be pretty on the nose for Gilligan & Co.

Donna is my favorite AV Club reviewer for sure, but I was surprised she didn't mention the bullet-riddled stop sign in the flash-forward (maybe I missed it?) Such a subtle touch, but I believe it's foreshadowing some sort of shootout in that location.

I think it's safe to assume the allure of having the BEST meth in the world was a motivator, as well as Gus's knowledge that if a product that good was out there, it wasn't going to go away quietly. It was like a corporation buying out a competitor, he just got far more trouble than he anticipated.

Yeah, but everything Chuck argues becomes 100% true. Saul Goodman is charming and likable, but he's decidedly not a force for good and arguably a terrible person. He enables murderers and criminals, consequently enabling crimes and murders. He gets people off scot-free who REALLY SHOULD be in prison. I mean, towards

I don't think so. I think Mike knew it was 50/50 at best, but who else could he have gotten to do it?

My favorite host of Comedy Bang! Bang!

I like Mike Mitchell, but Randy sucks.

Yeah that's a good call. I guess we'll see!

Nice. Are you sure that's the only instance? i could swear it was in an office, and they use that pattern a lot (e.g. the dream space floor pattern.)
