Quitting Kim Stanley Robinson’s Red Mars was a great decision. It was one of those books that I felt like I should read, but I just couldn’t get in to it. First time I made it a couple of chapters. Waited a few months, tried again, got a little over halfway and just wasn’t enjoying it. Dropped it and promptly

Valid, but I think the biggest challenge to the working poor are state sponsored lotteries. They disproportionately target low income households and the less you make, the greater a percentage of your income you are likely to spend on tickets. Cigarettes and high-interest consumer credit are also bad about victimizing

Then the article is worthless. How is an advice columnist supposed to give good advice if he misleads readers on the specific topic on which he is advising?

You know, for all the grief people like to heap on theme park food, Disney World has some pretty adventurous kids’ menus at most of their sit-down restaurants.

The title of the article is literally “Help! My Wife is a Porn Star”. Sure, maybe solo, but definitely on camera.

I reported a player on EA’s SWTOR MMO last night for making suicide threats. They didn’t sound very credible to me, but I’m not exactly qualified to judge that. I told the guy to get help if he was serious then passed the incident on to the mods. Got a response from EA today saying they responded but can’t discuss for

Direct quote from a FB conversation I am having re: this article “I’m reading the second part now. As a decorated mashed-potato artisan, I have to take issue with his description of mashed potatoes. While they are in fact, the second whitest thing ever, there is much more to them than simply mashing potatoes (namely a

I’m always reminded of the Ferengi from Star Trek. They are a very misogynistic culture the writers of the show always had them say “females” in a very derisive tone. Even in the military, where it is a commonly accepted term, I can’t help but think of the Ferengi when I hear it.

Same thing happened to us. We stopped “trying” because we were going to start IVF, then we did it the old-fashioned way.

Not cool. Try some empathy.

As a man who went through this, I have to disagree. Trying to get pregnant is great for about six months, but after that it really can be a chore if the babymaking takes over. If your sex life devolves to “put it in and inseminate me” it can be really stressful. You are both dealing with the stress of not being

I’m finally playing Bioshock: Infinite (I know). I’ll probably finish it tonight or tomorrow, then I’m thinking maybe VTM: Bloodlines.

Moscow (mosque-oh) Idaho always confused me when I lived in the NW.

The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition

I grabbed a copy of Shadows of the Empire on GoG’s May the 4th sale. First time with the PC version. Cutscenes are animated (poorly) unlike the N64 version. Controls are pretty dated, but it’s playable. Still fun, nice walk down memory lane.

My 3rd gen Kindle Keyboard with lighted cover is still serving me well. I do most of my reading with the light on and only have to charge it every couple of weeks. I read about 2 novels a month to put it into perspective.

I understand that older fiction is going to depict race issues differently, but “In the Vale of Lost Women” is so blatantly racist that I stopped reading Conan stories. Like the earlier stuff I read was overly concerned with race, but that story had Conan (who at this point has faced monsters and all kinds of demons)

Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark.

I’ve been playing catch up lately on basically every A-list game of the last 4 years. I find that I’m playing all of my games on easy. I’ve done Halo on legendary, but these days I don’t care how good I am at the game, I just want to experience the story. I also don’t play multi-player, because there’s less if any

Just started a play through of the Mass Effect Trilogy.
