"He went on to say that he believes Steam isn't what it used to be. Back in the day, it was a walled garden surrounded by a moat full of genetically enhanced killer mermaids"

Or, if you just don't like browsing games on steam: don't. I often scroll around the storefront just to see what's what, see if any games I have been on the fence about are on super-sale, etc. I don't consider steam to be my only news source for what's happening in PC gaming, and judging from your presence on Kotaku

Yeah, why would someone buy a race car and then go onto to care how often they have to stop and refuel? Seriously? Do you think someone is going to buy this car and never take it to the track for a Le Mons style race? Fuel economy is a performance metric just like horsepower and weight.

"As a reminder, the original Ford GT40 wasn't just another endurance racer."

I have no idea why so many people are are hating on your fuel economy question. Anyone who doesn't understand why that would be an important metric in an endurance racer is totally lost.

Except that as a major arms exporter; they might be looking at this platform as a money making endeavor, and not a huge expenditure.

Those advantages alone are enough convince me that manned fighter aircraft are (as unromantic an idea as it is) obsolete. And of course, there are other advantages too. Unmanned aircraft have almost unlimited endurance: 300 straight hours of enforcing a no-fly zone? No problem. They don't have the size requirement

At first glance, I was super-stoked about the possibility that the Russians were building nuclear powered locomotives to pull massive loads; which would be awesome. They have nuclear powered ice-breakers after all. Oh well.

You could equally well say that it provides most of the deterrent that a sub launched nuke does at a fraction of the cost, and all the of deterrent that a road mobile nuke provides with the added benefit of being harder to detect.

The system has a valid strategic profile, it's just a strategy that fits into a global

These guys don't seem to understand that cyber-security is fundamentally and considerably slanted in favor of the attacker. The skill and resources required to take down a service with a DDOS is negligible compared to the skill and resources it takes to secure a website against those same kinds of attacks. If these

I've often wondered: since the game programmers and designers of today grew up playing 8-bit and 16-bit consoles, do players who don't have that approach to gaming under their belt have a disadvantage in modern games?

Hell, I would have dropped the game just for the Tweets that preceded the death threat bad-mouthing Steam. If you're going to enter into a business relationship with a party (like Steam) then behave totally unprofessionally, you shouldn't expect to keep that business relationship.

The only way that episode could have been better would be if the kids hadn't been strangely silent. I get that they probably just didn't have those voice actors available, but if they had it would have been just a little better.

That's what I was going to suggest. Both approaches have their limitations of course, but I think laser tag is ready for a resurgence. Any time I have played in the last 15 years, it's been on the same equipment from the mid 1980's. Some day (when my kids are old enough to play) I am going to design a much more kick

I think you kind of answered your own question there. It's really easy for Tesla to be able to say that they can handle 90% of the driving, because the easiest 90% of the driving is probably only 30% of the actual work of creating a fully functioning autonomous vehicle. You load all the hard stuff, like construction,

I am skeptical of their MPG claims on the electric motors. If they are running that big thirsty 5.2L V10 just to charge up the batteries; something tells me it's going to be fairly wasteful; unless maybe they can run it on just a couple of cylinders to turn the alternator?

I wouldn't be surprised if that was the fuel

Google is also now renting the old Zeppelin hanger (Hanger One?) at Ames. I wonder if part of their reasoning at that deal was related to using Ames as a test bed for their autonomous vehicles.

I agree, I think the problem stems from the fact that we have a 2D surface (the screen) emulating a 3D environment, functioning as a membrane for a 4D environment...it's too much of a stretch; and it makes it look like you are just teleporting into totally unrelated spaces. I wish I could think of a way to make this
