Jessie J is about the only person I can think of who is more impressive singing a cappella our with a single guitar rather than a produced track. She’s enormously under rated in the US.

Good point.
No one likes an egotistical, delusional ass.
That’s not what happened. Pavarotti cancelled at the last minute and Aretha, having sung “Nessun dorma” two nights prior, stepped in. And while an inconic performance and an amazing, soulful interpretation, it was in no way technically better than what someone like Pavarotti would have done.
I had forgotten she did this song until someone else posted the original version. This one is good, too. I can dig it.
Oh, yeah. That song. It’s fun. I don’t turn it off when it comes on the radio in the car, so that’s definitely saying something.
You weren’t harsh enough for this crowd, they’re in the mood for over the top criticism.
She said she wants to be with the greats, she hopes to be remembered that way.
She said that she aspires to be as well known as them, not that she considers herself to be up there with them. Having goals isn’t something anyone should be ashamed of, or something that anyone should make fun of. And she seems to be doing a hell of a lot better than those who are putting her down, so...
she is actually a really good singer, and by the way she looks MUCH better with this hair! she has disappeared stated side however. i’ve been wondering about her...
This is a loootttttt of shade. She didn’t say she goes hard specifically because she wants to be compared to Aretha. She’s not saying “Aretha goes hard.” She is a fantastic singer - and this was a very arrogant statement, but Gaga says shit like this all the time too. If you’ve ever heard Jessie J’s live and a…
Because professional entertainers never have egos...
Just going to leave this here in case anyone wants to hear a voice reach for the heavens. Bonus points for the not-at-all-veiled 70s lyrics. RIP Minnie. Gone too soon!
I have an Aretha box set. I’ve worn that shit out.
She’s got a great voice. I love her feminist anthem “Like a Dude.” This is her live performance of “Bang Bang.” Not sure why Jez is snarking on her.
So I’ll be flamed for this but she’s prob a better singer than Beyoncé (admittedly I don’t get the love). She’s has some serious pipes. She was here in oz recently doing a launch for Microsoft and I scored tickets to the free gig that was a pretty intimate affair in a small venue and acoustic (because the sound…
Yes, she most likely will be no new Aretha, but in a day and age when a fashion doll with not much of a singing voice like Rhianna and a plastic doll like Nicki Minaj, whose bodily transformation ‘enhanced’ her career chances ten fold, can become ‘icons’ and ‘superstars’, nothing seems to be impossible. All it takes…
SHe’s at the beginning of her career. Didn’t Gawker celebrate Octavia Buttler for badassing a note to herself to be a bestseller all day every day? Jessie doesn’t say she is an Aretha, she says she would someday like to be mentioned in that line up. Why shit on her for that? Her voice is pretty good, unlike some…
I dunno, Bang Bang was a really good song.
