I recently had a co-worker quit who was a pay grade/title above me. I took on about 90% of his workload. Prior to his leaving, I had been asking for a promotion after busting my ass for 3 years. Coworker leaves, I ask again if I can get a promotion especially since we have the salary/space opened up now.

Good for you! When I got promoted, i was offered $0.50 less per hour than the previous manager started at. When I countered with “why not (amount)?” My boss asked why, I responded “it’s what (male manager) made.” I ended up with $0.25 less per hour with the promise of a raise in 3 months. Three months goes by, I get

I’ve been getting the “be patient” and “worker harder” mantra for two years.

I read something that said “you can’t have million dollar dreams with a minimum wage work ethic” It made me want to scream! Do you know how difficult minimum wage jobs are?!

And if you do complain about it or threaten to take them to court, they’ll just fire you and get away with it because you most likely live in an “at will” state.

Using the “it’s the law” syllogism is weak and stupid at best. Murder is against the law, but there’s still a lot of homicide just like there is still a lack of equality in the workplace. I feel like it is getting better (male perspective so I could be CLUELESS) but probably not fast enough. In my workplace everyone

Also, just WTF with this statement. She is actually saying that women should just work harder than men to be treated equally. DO MORE WORK TO BE TREATED THE SAME. I just. I just can’t.

Aaaand Stacey Dash continues to be a nightmare.

If Fox News did a segment on the “myth” of wage inequality where all of the anchors got together and had to lay their paychecks side by side to openly see who makes what, and then watch the ones who make more try to justify their higher wage to the lower paid anchors, I would watch the shit outta that train wreck.

Still applicable.

*gasp* no one’s ever challenged me before...*sob*!!!!

Bet she went running back to the Fox set, a safe place where everyone agrees with her because they are similarly stupid/uneducated/batshit crazy.

I bet she’d be shocked to learn she made less than Alicia Silverstone, who also made less than the men, on that set. Because she seems to not get it at all.

I haaate when discussion about wage gaps and/or the glass ceiling are met with, “Just work harder! If you can do twice as well as the guys, they can’t deny you!” As if that’s inspiring instead of depressing. Having to work harder to achieve the same results is the problem, not the solution!

Yes, definitely. Work harder for less money, and when the “less money” doesn’t pay all of your bills, don’t come complaining to us. We told you to work harder.

This was the message of the meeting I just got out of, so you’ll pardon me if I have less patience for Stacey Fucking Dash.

And, like, the WHOLE POINT is that if you have to be extraordinary in order to get paid the same as mediocre white men, THAT’S UNFAIR.

And be the best, if that’s what it takes. If you have to be extraordinary, be extraordinary.

Anyone else notice how hard Dash was trying not to cry while Meredith was raking her through reality like a hoe through spring’s fresh manure?

So fucking sick of “BUT DA LAW!!!!!” You know that law doesn’t mean if you think you’re getting unequal pay, you can call the cops and they show up and say “Give her equal pay or we’ll arrest you,” right? It means if you think you’re getting unequal pay you can take your employer to court, except you probably can’t, be

Stacey Dash should know that life is unfair. Instead of becoming a notable, respectable actress, she became a Fox News contributer who most likely doesn’t make as much money as their male contributers OR their white female contributers (because we know when it comes to the wage gap, white women on average make more
