I struggle with reading they/them too and I have to really slow down my ADD brain to look for context clues. It doesn’t help that a lot of online content is written quickly and articles are sloppy.  My brain does better with it when I hear a conversation - like on a podcast.

I promise you there is nothing overhyped about Brood X.  Yeah we see some cicadas in Cincy every year but nothing like the big one.

I live in Cincinnati. My first exposure to Brood X was in 1985 when I worked at the zoo. Cicadas love big trees so the zoo was a hotspot. I’m one of the few people here who loves them and gets excited. I feel a spiritual connection with bugs that spend 17 years chilling underground munching on tree roots.
